Lost Marbles And Exploded Evidence is a collection of Enon’s singles from various incarnations of the band, with John Schmersal being the only constant factor. Needless to say, the songs are all over the place, but considering Enon’s knack for diversity, this hardly proposes a problem.
“Knock That Door” launches this collection with an ass-shakingly good bass-line and Toko Yasuda’s insanely catchy vocals. It ranks among Enon’s finest songs and demands repeated listens. “Tilt You Up!” is another standout dance-y number, complete with pinball machine sexual innuendo and sound effects. “Marbles Explode” is a mess of synth noises, distorted vocals, and odd percussion that wouldn’t sound out of place on their debut album, Believo! Other songs are on the mellower side like the Toko-led, “Kanon” and “Raisin Heart,” both of which have an electronic lounge feel.
If you’re unfamiliar with Enon, Lost Marbles And Exploded Evidence isn’t a bad introduction. It has the same soda ‘n’ pop-rocks feel as their albums and comes with a DVD, full of videos and live footage. What more could you ask for?
