Album covers should be somewhat indicative of the music contained on the slab of plastic or vinyl contained within. Putting a creepy old picture of a flower girl with the word "DEAD" above her implies something dark and disturbing. However, Dead Hearts really should have used one of those old Revelation covers featuring a mosh-pit or the singer holding out the mic with his X'd hand to a fighting crowd. Their music is just plain ol' tuff-guy hardcore with occasional smatterings of rock and metal. You and I both have heard this sort of thing before...loud guitars, mosh break-downs, gang sing-a-longs, etc. Dead Hearts are frustrated with their city and want to burn it down "TONIGHT!!" I realize that I'm about 10 years older than the age demographic that Dead Hearts are trying to reach and I'm attempting to be open-minded about their music. But still...hardcore has been gutted, rearranged, and left for dead by bands like Refused and Blood Brothers. While there's nothing wrong with being a traditionalist, Dead Hearts' take on hardcore sounds bland and dated to these ears. With that said, I'll leave you with a quote from "Breakdown" – "It's all been said before / by better men than I / and it's all been done before / don't know why I bother trying."
